Uno sviluppatore giapponese mostra un esempio di applicazione per la realtà aumentata: i volti spariscono e diventano trasparenti. Gli sviluppatori che si occupano di realtà aumentata, grazie alle recenti innovazioni tecnologiche, stanno trasformando in progetti e applicazioni reali molte delle "idee" apparse negli scorsi anni nei più noti film di fantascienza.

Kazuya Noshiro, CEO della giapponese ViRD, ha mostrato un esempio di app per iPhone X capace di rendere completamente invisibile il volto dell'utente. Noshiro ha sfruttato le abilità nel riconoscimento facciale della fotocamera TrueDepth integrata nel melafonino del decennale per nascondere dinamicamente il suo volto (lasciando visibili solo occhi e bocca). Non è dato sapere se Noshiro pubblicherà o meno la sua app sullo store di Apple; purtuttavia, essa costituisce una dimostrazione pratica di ciò che è possibile fare con TrueDepth (che eredita la tecnologia sviluppata per Microsoft Kinect da PrimeSense: Microsoft termina la produzione di Kinect ma la sua tecnologia continuerà a vivere). Lo sviluppatore ha spiegato di aver realizzato l'app ricorrendo alla piattaforma Unity passando a TrueDepth un'immagine statica dello sfondo. La fotocamera di Apple riconosce poi il contorno del volto e sostituisce il viso con gli elementi che compongono lo sfondo, seguendo i movimenti dell'utente. Chi volesse provare la realtà aumentata sugli iPhone può usare l'app Makebox AR realizzata dalla stessa ViRD. L'applicazione consente di plasmare modelli 3D ricorrendo a un set di blocchi colorati, reminiscenza di Minecraft.
